Exciting News

18/12/2023

People local to Stroud may have heard the sad news that Weven, the folk crafts shop that has been home to Wayward Weaves for the past year, is sadly closing from the end of December. It’s been wonderful to share the space with such a warm, magical and well-loved enterprise and I know it will be missed by many people.

The big news for Wayward Weaves is that I now have the opportunity to move/expand into current shop area and will be transforming it a beautiful dedicated Saori studio ready to welcome weavers from mid-January.

I’ll have a new timetable with more sessions each week, regular longer workshops and lots of exciting plans for 2024 and beyond.

Hopefully see you there soon!

For more info, please see the Learn Saori page or sign up to the Wayward Weaves mailing list for updates and announcements.

I am delighted to say that I am now able to offer Saori weaving sessions at my studio in Stroud again. At present I can host individuals or two people from the same household and as always you will have the opportunity to explore weaving with a range of textures and colours in a wonderfully relaxed and informal way.

I have taken all steps to ensure that my studio is COVID-secure and will ask you to complete a short health questionnaire before your session. The usual cost of 1:1 tuition is £35/hour.

**WINTER 2020/21 SPECIAL OFFER**  £45 for a 2-hour introductory session - if you would like to book or have any questions then please do get in touch!

WINTER OPEN STUDIOS

5/12/2019

This Sunday (8th December) and next Friday (13th December) there will be a warm welcome from Wayward Weaves and my fellow artists and makers at our Trixter Studios Winter Open Days.

I'll be doing Saori weaving demonstrations throughout the day and you'll have the chance to see and try a range of Saori looms. I'll also have warps (including lots of new ones that I haven't had a chance to put on the online shop yet), books and other accessories for sale if any weavers out there are still in need of present ideas!

We're opening all our studios from 12 until 5 on both days. As well as Wayward Weaves you can see Angie's paintings and drawings, Cathy's printmaking/drawing and Jayne's arty pilates.

Hot drinks and cake await all - hope to see you there.

SAORI WORKSHOPS AUTUMN 2019

17/9/2019

My autumn programme of Saori Discovery Days is now available to book.

I am so pleased to have found a wonderful venue and have four dates confirmed for beginner's Saori workshops in October and November:

Wednesday 30th October 2019
Friday 1st November 2019
Saturday 16th November 2019
Sunday 17th November 2019

Each offers a whole day of freestyle weaving on beautiful Saori looms. Click the  links above for full details and bookings. No previous experience is necessary and the looms are very easy to use - you can be creating your own fabric within minutes of starting.

I wanted to find somewhere special for these workshops (rather than all squeezing into my studio!) and I have certainly done that. Imagine Community Studios is a bright and welcoming space at the heart of Stroud's mill heritage, located in a peaceful setting between the river and canal and just 15 minutes walk from the town centre and railway station.

Each event runs from 10am to 4.30pm and places are £90.

I'm back! I've had a wonderful time on maternity leave but I'm very excited to be returning to my studio part-time. I'm launching straight into organising some full day workshops (more info soon) and really looking forward to Buckfastleigh Wool Gathering on Sunday 13th October.

I'll be taking a couple of looms to demonstrate and for people to try Saori weaving on, so please come and say hello if you can make it. There's also felting, knitting, spinning, natural dyeing and a local and organic cafe. It's at Buckfastleigh Town Hall from 10am to 4pm and entry is by donation.

    A bit about me...
I first heard about Saori in 2006 and was immediately struck by the inclusive philosophy and the beauty of the freestyle weavings. Since that day I have explored both traditional and Saori weaving and have been lucky enough to learn from some wonderful teachers across the world in Europe, Japan and the U.S.A.

I am as excited by Saori as I was at my first discovery and I love enabling others to experience the joy and freedom to be found in weaving the Saori way. I have a particular interest in arts and health projects.

Before starting on my Saori weaving adventures, I worked for 15 years in the community and environmental field.
I remain passionate about sustainability and try to incorporate these values into all aspects of my weaving work.
